This photovoice exhibition brings to light the perspectives and experiences of young people from Platfontein’s !Xun and Khwe communities.
For the opening event, enjoy a dynamic programme of discussions and traditional and hip-hop dances by artists from Platfontein. All proceedings will be in English, !Xuntali and Khwedam.
Equipped with cameras, the young people documented different aspects of their environment, capturing images that reflect beauty, struggle, aspiration, and evolving identities. The exhibition pairs these images with personal narratives recorded in 2022, giving voice to the young authors and their reflections. The exhibition includes traditional objects selected by partner associations, offering a tangible link between past and present, alongside a 10-minute documentary film showcasing the collaborative research process.
The exhibition is a collaboration between: COSMO-ART, two Platfontein-based associations - the Southern African San Development Organisation (SASDO) and the San Community Development (SANCD) and various departments of Sol Plaatjie University. Supported by IFAS-Research. IFAS-Culture, the McGregor Museum and Origins Centre.
