Prof Walter Peters is an architect, architectural historian and heritage practitioner based in Cape Town. He was editor of the tri-annual Journal of the KwaZulu-Natal Institute for Architecture, 1982-2022. He is a recipient of the Writers and Critics Award (1989) and Medal of Distinction (2005) of the SA Institute of Architects, and was the Sophia Gray laureate in 2009 for which he chose the topic ‘More ways of being an architect’.
He is an emeritus Professor of Architecture and a retired Professional Architect of SACAP; an Hon Life Member of SAIA-KZN and CIfA but active on both Heritage committees, and is a member of the Association of Professional Heritage Practitioners (APHP). Architectural heritage is his passion, both Western Cape and KwaZulu-Natal.
