Orlando East, established in 1932, stands as a cornerstone of South African history and culture within the greater Soweto area. Born from the 1940s squatter movements, particularly the influential Sofasonke Movement led by James Mpanza (known as the Father of Soweto), this township has been at the heart of South Africa's cultural, sporting, and political transformation.
