In 2015, we decided to start up a Visitor Studies and Interpretation group in South Africa, with the view to connecting all practitioners. The aim of this group is to improve our knowledge as interpretive practitioners through workshops, presentations and social media contact. In previous workshops there was great support for better communication between people engaged in Visitor Studies and Interpretation, but we don’t seem to have had the response we were hoping for when VISSA was started. So this is our call to all enthusiastic interpreters to get together and discuss how to take VISSA further.
The first step is to join our Facebook page (Visitor Interpretation & Studies SA (VISSA) - click here. We would like our Facebook page to be a place where we can share resources and improve on our visitor experiences. Once you have signed up (and commented on posts!), then please mail us at VISSAinterpretation@gmail.com and send us suggestions of what you would like to see on the page and where you would like to see VISSA go in the future.
The next step is a meeting to discuss the future of VISSA. Meetings will take place in Cape Town and Durban, but those who are not in those provinces can still take part via Skype. The dates will still be confirmed, so keep an eye on the FB page and we will post more details as soon as possible.
See you on the VISSA page,
Kind regards
Heidi & Judy
