The historic home that now houses Piza e Vino used to be situated in a quiet corner of genteel Auckland Park, next to the golf course and a stone’s throw from the Johannesburg Country Club. But Johannesburg allows very little to remain unchanged, and over the past century we have seen the demise of the Galloway Pony Club, then the Links of the Golf Course, and now the Perth-Empire Corridor of Freedom looks set to eradicate what little remains of the bucolic origins of Auckland Park.
So before everything disappears, join Dennis Adams as he tells us how Auckland Park was named, its early history, its flirtation with Afrikaner Nationalism and what its future may be. And this all over an enjoyable luncheon in charming surroundings.
