De Beers has been granted Environmental Authorisation to prospect for kimberlite in the heart of the Groot Marico River catchment area. The application area falls across the upper reaches of the river which provides water to the town and neighbouring township, restitution, commercial and game farms, including Madikwe Big 5 Game Reserve, the massive downstream traditional communities, Gaberone capital of Botswana, and the Limpopo River.

The deadline for submitting an appeal is Wednesday 15 March 2017.

The appeal must be submitted on the official appeal form (available from the DEA website - 'Appeal Questionnaire') to the Department of Environmental Affairs as follows:
