Morbid Musings - Marie-Louise Rouget

Marie-Louise Rouget is a South African archivist, digital curator, writer and researcher. Since 2023, she has been a project digital archivist at the University of Galway Library, leading the digital-first project to make historian Kerby A. Miller’s collection of Irish emigrant letters and life stories accessible to the public through the online portal, Imirce. The Imirce project has been featured by prominent broadcasters, including RTÉ Radio 1's (Ireland) Doc on One. Marie-Louise completed her MA in Archives and Records Management at UCL in 2021 and has a special interest in the intersection of death, cultural heritage and the visual arts. In 2023, she published the research article ‘Grave Concerns: the state of public cemetery records management in South Africa’. Also in 2023, Marie-Louise became a network scholar of the Cemetery Research Group (University of York) and launched a Substack newsletter titled 'Morbid Musings' - a repository of research around death culture, cemeteries and the visual arts in South Africa.
