Decolonising heritage: Ownership & engagement with South Africa's human record. South Africa holds a rich record of human evolution. But investigating and accessing that record has historically left out many of our voices. HERI in partnership with the University of Johannesburg (UJ) is hosting a special online event in celebration of Heritage Day 2021 asking: What does it mean to decolonise heritage?
Joining this conversation are South African experts in archaeology and palaeoscience including:
- Dr Dipuo Kgotleng, Director of the Palaeo-Research Institute at the University of Johannesburg
- Motsaathebe Serekoane, South African Heritage Resources Agency (SAHRA) Council Committee: Heritage Resources Management Committee
- Dr Yonatan Sahle, HERI Board Member and Senior Lecturer in the Department of Archaeology at UCT
The event will be an open conversation moderated by HERI's Robyn Humphreys, a PhD Candidate in the Department of Archaeology at UCT. Audience questions will be welcome during the event. Please join us to take part in the important conversation. We look forward to seeing you there.
Happening on Tuesday 21 September from 12.00 - 13.00 SAST. Registration: https://bit.ly/3tMLfUA
