I have been doing some research about my ancestors and among the issues that have not been resolved yet is the ‘legend’ of Dutch citizens living in South Africa who were conscripted during World War 2. As far as I can recall Queen Juliana of The Netherlands called all Dutch citizens living in South Africa to arms. This must have been approximately 1940/41. Some (or most?) of these people were not keen to serve in the Netherlands Army and went into hiding (the Dutch use the word ‘onderduik’) while some were either interned by the South African authorities or otherwise volunteered and then left by ship to Europe. I have tried to find out more about this ship as the information I have is that it sunk or was torpedoed just off Cape Town.
 
Some of the ‘onderduikers’ only surfaced in 1946 or later as the orders were still active after the war. Does anybody have information on this?
