The Long March to Freedom has been on view to the public Fountains Valley-PTA Groenkloof Nature Reserve City of Tshwane since September 2015. The exhibition of 96 life-size bronze figures, celebrating 350 years of South Africa’s history through the lives of the individuals sculpturally represented, has been enjoyed and praised by 1000s of domestic and international visitors.
The Long March to Freedom has come to be regarded as a leading attraction and asset in the Tshwane region. The National Heritage Project Company, owner of the Long March, has over the past 3 years repeatedly attempted to engage the City to obtain a lease on the land at Fountains, or agree some kind of partnership, to enable the further development of the project and establish a permanent exhibition. This has met with zero success and it is no longer possible to sustain the #LongMarchtoFreedom in the current temporary location Fountains Valley-PTA.
In the light of the above, we are excited to announce that the #LongMarchtoFreedom will be relocated during January 2019 to the Maropeng – Cradle of Humankind, where it will remain open to the public, freshly maintained and rejuvenated, and part of the cluster of attractions in the World Heritage Site. We look forward to welcoming you soon to the ‘Long March to Freedom at Maropeng’!
