Several weeks ago I got an email request via my website to do a walking tour of Joburg's first trees. The reader had come across my story on Joburg's oldest trees:
Well, I spent a few weeks researching old trees, speaking to people who know their trees, digging deep into my archives, and generally having fun (I love doing the research that goes into my tours!). I honed in on some rare beauties, like the one below, and was all set for the tour.
Old Joburg tree (Lucille Davie)
We had a grand time, combining a bit of driving with walking around 6-7km.
So I've decided to do the tour again next Sunday - come along with me, and step back into Joburg of 100 or so years ago, when these trees were planted as tiny seeds, and at the same time, learn more about this great city's history, and the personalities who made their mark in small, green ways.
- Date: Sunday, 23 October
- Time: 8am
- Meet: outside the German School in Auckland Park
- Duration: 3-4 hours
- Cost: R300pp
- Payment is cash at the start of the tour, or EFT (and POP to me):
- L Davie
- FNB
- 50330055548
- 258605
I look forward to seeing you for some tree hunting fun!
I do 14 tours in all (this is the 15th one!), check them out here, and let me know which ones you'd like to do: https://www.lucilledavie.co.za/jozi-tours
