The Border Historical Society has arranged a day trip to the Salem district. It will be led by Donald Davies who has planned visits to various sites, including the following highlights:

• Lombard's Post - an early fortified farmhouse;
• Bushman's River Valley - accompanied by Penny Elliot - one of the original cast of the 1820 documentary "The Volunteers", filmed here in 1983;
• Two early Corbelled structures

Vehicles will be shared where possible and the costs of each car will be apportioned pro-rata  between the driver and the passengers, based on the total distance travelled. Vehicles will need to have a high clearance. 
 
We anticipate leaving East London early in the morning - at about 6:30 - to spend the whole day out. Our first stop is at the Port Alfred (Kowie) Museum at 8:00.

Everyone attending would need to bring their own food and water, good walking shoes and a hat.
