Following some sensational reporting in newspapers, politicians pressured the police to remove a problem of indecency which was seen to be rampant in Johannesburg in 1939, particularly the sexual exploitation of teenage boys. The police arrested and charged at least 22 men and detained a similar number of adolescent boys to be presented as witnesses. 83 years on, this book has gathered and compiled what information could be found about the men charged and the boys they were charged with abusing – their lives before and after the trials.
