The Gauteng Provincial Government (GPG) proposes to redevelop 21 buildings within the Kopanong Precinct in order to accommodate provincial administration functions within a centralised precinct, thereby improving efficiency. A Heritage Impact Assessment (HIA) has been completed and revealed that a number of buildings within the precinct have protected heritage status as they are over 60 years old. As such, an application has been made to the Provincial Heritage Resources Authority - Gauteng to obtain a permit to commence with construction of these buildings.
Notice is hereby given of the public participation process in terms of the National Heritage Resources Act (Act No. 25 of 1999). A 30-day commenting period will take place from 01 July 2017 - 31 July 2017 whereby all parties are encouraged to raise any concerns they may have regarding the heritage permit application for the Kopanong Precinct.
A Public Meeting will be held to present the project and provide the public with an opportunity to engage with the project team including the architect, urban designer and heritage consultants. Details of the meeting will be communicated in due course.
