The National Heritage Council of South Africa (NHC) will kick start Heritage month (September) with an alumni commemoration service and revitalisation of the rich cultural heritage of the Historic Lesseyton Methodist Seminary (1883 – 1916) themed Spirituality and Success on Saturday, 01 September 2018 in Queenstown from 18h00 (all night).
The night will be filled with praise and worship to pay homeage to the departed Lesseyton Seminary Alumni who combined Politics and Christian ethics to fight racism during the liberation struggle. Spiritual enrichment and prayers will be held in order to make the historic Lesseyton Methodist Seminary Restoration project a success.
The church is one of the oldest missionary stations that signify the religious heritage and interaction between the indigenous people with western settlers. This Heritage is particularly important for the impact that it had on the culture and socio-economic conditions of the people.
The NHC believes that this occasion is important for the community to understand and appreciate the sacred heritage value of the site and its desired outcomes for the benefit of South Africa’s heritage.
