I am in the process of completing my PhD thesis on Alexis Preller's Discovery mural. I have one chapter that discusses murals by other artists in public buildings in Johannesburg and Pretoria. One of the works I am looking at is Pierneef's depiction of Johannesburg, apparently as it was in around 1936, which is installed in the Johannesburg's Magistrate's Court. Click here to view a high res version.
The view is presumably from somewhere on the ridge looking southwards towards the city. I would like to try and identify the large white gabled house (?) with veranda and garden that appears in the middle-ground. And, if possible, also any of the other buildings although the skyscrapers all appear to be generic geometric forms. The building in the foreground on the left appears to be a petrol station.
Thank you.
