The Magaliesberg Association for Culture & Heritage (MACH) will be unveiling a blue plaque commemorating the Battle of Nooitgedacht on Friday 13 December 2019.
About the battle: On 13th December 1900, below Nooitgedacht cliffs, 1500 British soldiers camped. Before dawn 2500 Boers under Generals De la Rey, Smuts & Beyers attacked. Beyers from the top of the Magaliesberg & de la Rey from the base. It was a significant Boer victory. The British managed to retreat but losses were considerable. This was the largest Magaliesberg battle.
