This sandstone house and adjacent coach house was built in 1898 shortly after the establishment of the Fouriseburg in 1892. The rondawel and stable were erected in 1920 when the house belonged to the town-miller a Mr Myburgh. At the same time the giant Apricot tree next to the rondawel was planted. At that stage Fouriesburg was proclaimed the capital of the Republic of the Orange Free State.
According to legend the house played an important role in the Anglo Boer War. It had a large cellar, which has since been filled in. It has been said that the Boer war hero General Christiaan de Wet came into town after dark and hid in the house - his horse was taken care of in the cellar. When the town fell to the British in 1900 the then British Commissioner of Police took over the house and set up the flag pole in front of the house - which is still there today.
When Myburgh took over the house from the police, he is said to have removed the blue police lamp in front of the house.
