Designed by Aburrow and Treeby, this house was built for Charles Jerome in 1902. Hazeldene Hall’s distinctive feature is its symmetry and the double-storied cast-iron veranda on three sides, the iron work selected from the catalogue of Walter MacFarlane of Glasgow.
Charles Jerome, born 1863, was a financier, stockbroker, director of companies and was known as “King Coal” as he founded the Boksburg coalfields. He was also a member of the syndicate that established the Premier Diamond Mine.
