The Wits City Institute invites applications for a number of Honours, Masters and Doctoral scholarships. Students appointed will be linked to the ‘Re-Centring AfroAsia: Musical and Human Migrations in the Pre-Colonial Period 700-1500AD’ which is funded by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation. This is a major project which is being initiated between the Centre for African Studies and the South African College of Music at UCT, the Centre for Humanities Research at UWC and the Wits City Institute at Wits University. This is a key post-colonial an post-Apartheid initiative to restore an ignored and often forgotten history. South African students (citizens and permanent residents) with a creative mind, whether historians, archaeologists, musicologists, anthropologists and sociologists are welcome to apply.
Applications for the scholarships will be considered from prospective students or those registered in an appropriate discipline. This is funded by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation and preference will be given to black scholars who are committed to contributing to the creation of an endogenous and indigenous scholarship in the humanities
