During a recent consultation about the restoration of heritage structures that contain old, sun-baked bricks a very interesting question was raised - where does one obtain similar bricks now?
My impression is that bricks on the extremities of modern kilns are softer than those in the centre and can be used as replacements. But I cannot find anyone in the rural Western Cape that can assist. I wonder if Heritage Portal readers could assist?
