The Peter Louis Award was established in memory of an active member of the Natal Institute of Architects Heritage Committee, to give recognition to person/s or organisations that have made a significant contribution to the promotion and, or preservation of the Heritage Resources of KwaZulu Natal.
Peter Louis was a Quantity Surveyor who had worked closely with a number of Architects on a wide variety of heritage projects. Previous recipients of the award have been a building contractor, an architect, an artist, a secretary, a resource manager, a researcher and a city councillor, each of whom made a commendable contribution to our appreciation of our historic environment.
The prime of objective of the Peter Louis Award is to acknowledge those who have promoted, fostered and, or advanced conservation and restoration of the built environment of Kwa-Zulu Natal.
A winner will be selected from nominations forwarded by the profession and, or the public of this province. The Selection Committee consists of previous recipients of the award. The Award of a scroll will be made late in November this year.
Selection Criteria
Nominees must meet the following criteria:
- individuals, groups or organisations that have made a worthwhile contribution to the preservation and, or promotion of heritage of the built environment,
- the Nominees – individuals, organisations, institutions, which may include municipalities, management authorities, conservancies, academia, institutes etc, - must still be active in the heritage field,
- the Nominees contributions may be in the form of literary or active promotion, or preservation, or research, or protection of any aspect of our built heritage.
Terms and Conditions
- Nominations from individuals, organisations, corporations, congregations, institutions will be accepted.
- Each nomination must be accompanied by a fully completed Nomination Form.
- Nominators and Nominees should be contactable by telephone, cell phone or email.
- The Selection Committee may choose to make an award to more than a single nominee.
- The SAIA-KZN Heritage Committee reserves the right to make any reasonable amendments to the process and, or procedures.
- Completed nominations may be hand delivered to the offices of SAIA-KZN at 160 Bulwer Road, or emailed to media@saiakzn.org.za
- All nominations close at 12.00 noon on Friday, 11th October 2024
After the closing date for receipt of Nominations Forms - 12.00 noon 11th October 2024 – the Selection Committee will adjudicate the nominations. The winner and their nominator will be informed and may be asked to confirm their acceptance. The winner may also be invited to make a presentation at the Awards Ceremony.
