As promised herewith more details about the first DHS online ZOOM meeting which will take place on Saturday 29th May at 14:00. Our speaker will be Ms Sigi Howes, recently retired Head of the Education Museum in Wynberg, . She has been involved in designing and running environmental education and museum programmes there for the past 26 years.
During this time, she also began researching the histories of the earliest schools in the Cape. She is highly qualified in the field of Education and also has a post graduate professional Diploma in Museum Science.
She is a member of the Simon van der Stel Foundation (Cape Town) as well as the South African Museums Association. Amongst her other activities, she is currently writing the biography of the child diarist, Iris Vaughan.
Sigi will do a power-point presentation called DRUNKS, QUACKS and VAGABONDS, a light-hearted and informative look at the first teachers in the early days of the Cape.
From there she'll move on to the development of schools and will finish with a brief look at education in Durbanville.
Paul Haupt will facilitate the scheduled Zoom meeting.
