The Cultural Affairs Awards of the Western Cape are hosted annually by the Western Cape Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport (DCAS) to recognise and celebrate the cultural, linguistic and heritage excellence in the province. The occasion is a vital opportunity to proudly showcase the diversity of the province’s cultural landscape.
DCAS extends every year an invitation to the general public to nominate individuals who have excelled and made a difference in one or more of the Cultural Affairs categories; and in the process, made a substantial contribution towards the Western Cape. Nominations for the Cultural Affairs Awards are selected by the public and the winners, to be selected by a panel of experts, will be announced by the Minister of Cultural Affairs and Sport.
Since 1999 these prestigious awards acknowledged many individuals and organisations that have made a significant impact in the Western Cape. Read more online about the previous winners (click here to view) and also find more information about the previous ceremonies (click here to view) that celebrated those who made a difference in the lives of so many people in the Western Cape.
The annual ceremony is a highlight on the calendar of DCAS and equips the people of the Western Cape with a sense of pride in their cultural and linguistic heritage. The Western Cape Cultural Affairs Awards became a true reflection of the values of our vibrant democracy in which the cultural and linguistic rights of all people are recognised.
