The Orange Grove Waterfall, a source of the Sandspruit, is situated here. Its natural beauty made the surroundings a popular resort in the very earliest days of Johannesburg. Some of the attractions included swimming in the pool below the Waterfall, a tearoom, Sunday concerts, and hot air balloon ascents. The Staats Almanak of the Zuid Afrikaanse Republiek for 1896 records that at that time the resort even housed a collection of wild animals.
