The Sterkfontein cave system is world-renowned for its fossil hominin and archaeological discoveries. Recent excavations in a deep chamber of Sterkfontein, known as Milner Hall, have yielded two important hominin remains. The Archaeology Lunchtime Seminar presents an exciting talk on these discoveries by Dr Matthew Caruana, who was part of the team – led by Wits archaeologist, Dr Dominic Stratford – that published these findings in the prestigious Journal of Human Evolution. Caruana will talk about the Milner Hall specimens and show what makes these findings so unique compared to other southern and East African hominins.
