The Johannesburg Heritage Foundation is thrilled to announce that it has been chosen to receive a $10,000 grant from Walmart. The Walmart #sparkkindness campaign recognises acts of kindness by Walmart employees outside of the office. Walmart employee and JHF member Brett McDougall was recognised for his efforts in cleaning the Orange Grove Spruit between African Street and The Avenue in The Gardens, which he has led for the past five years. The award will be used by the JHF to continue and to expand this work along the Orange Grove Spruit, in particular the rehabilitation of two historic sites: the Orange Grove Waterfall (about which Brett is close to concluding a heritage study) and Hilson Bridge, the city’s oldest suburban bridge.
