An exhibition put together by the WAM staff, many of whom rarely have the opportunity to contribute to the curatorial framework of the exhibitions. The exhibition is based on their first encounter with African art and what this experience means to them in the context of today. The exhibition encourages a more nuanced engagement with the artworks WAM staff work with and care for. More importantly, it offers the opportunity for a distinct and visceral engagement with artworks, artefacts and objects that are part of their 'cultural heritage'. Like the collection itself, the artworks, artefacts and objects selected are not limited to the cultures within southern Africa.
