Pretoria, also affectionately called the Jacaranda City, is one of the most popular cities in South Africa. It is known for its energetic hustle and bustle and undoubtedly has one of the best climates in the world. Over the years, a lot has changed, and the city looks quite different from the years 1940 to 1990. Pretoria Stories is a collection of memories from that bygone era. More than 60 community members' stories, anecdotes, and poems in English and Afrikaans are included in this anthology, bringing “old Pretoria” to life.

The Capitol Theatre, Fountains Valley, jacaranda season, and carefree childhood days are brought back to memory, but also the Church Street bomb, the Pangaman, and forced removals. It is enriching to read contributions from township residents and the Greek and Italian communities. In short: a book about Pretoria written by Pretorians.

Most of the stories are in Afrikaans but some are in English.

The book is available at Protea Books in Hatfield, Pretoria. Click here to order online.
