The outing will be led by Andrea Botha of Barberton Adventures. She arranges the various permits, access keys etc. Some of the stops will be as follows:
- Fairview Mine, renowned for pioneering the BIOX® (Biological Oxidation) process, an eco-friendly method of gold extraction
- Fairview Cemetery, site of several graves of locals drowned in the Drummond Castle sinking (16th June 1896)
- Victoria Hotel, site of the famous horse race track
- Eureka City, where we will have a picnic lunch
- Bray’s Golden Quarry, one of the most amazing places to visit in our part of the world
- Time permitting, we may get to do some prospecting/gold-panning.
Meet at the Barberton Museum at 08:00 or at KLCBT, Crossing, at 07:00, if arranging a lift
Important points to note are:
- Barberton Adventures fees for the outing are R200 per adult and R150 per child
- The roads are so bad in places that only 4x4 vehicles can be used
- Bring: Picnic lunch, table & chairs, Bush shoes, Light jacket (it can get cold if the weather changes), Walking stick, Sunscreen, No toilet facilities anywhere on the route
