The Modderfontein Conservation Society (MCS) will once again host a walk through the Heritage Precinct of the village on Heritage Day, 24 September.
The Society’s heritage champion Keith Martin will conduct the urban amble round the village. it will begin at 09:00 at The Dynamite Company Museum, 2 Main Street, Modderfontein.
The 2.2 km route will draw attention to historical buildings and provide a commentary covering the social history of the area.
In addition to the walk, the museum will be open from 08:30 to 12:30. This will give visitors the opportunity to see why Modderfontein was called “A Power for Prosperity” in the area and how it contributed to the wealth and development of Edenvale and Kempton Park as well as the country as a whole. Social aspects of Modderfontein are also showcased in the museum.

According to Keith, the heritage walk is so popular, that booking is essential. The cost is R50.00 a head and it last about two hours. He advises walkers to wear comfortable shoes and hats and to bring something to drink if they feel they will need it.
