This was the home of a family of political activists who together made a significant contribution to a non-racial South Africa. Eli Weinberg, his wife Violet and daughter Sheila all endured harassment, banning and house arrest. Rocks were thrown through the front windows, the broken windows were not replaced, and gatherings moved to the kitchen. In 1965 all three were imprisoned; Violet and Eli for Communist Party activities and Sheila for painting ANC slogans.
