The rich history of Potchefstroom includes not only the oldest church north of the Vaal River, but a host of other historic churches. On Saturday 15 October Heritage Potchefstroom Erfenis presents a Church Tour during which five of these historic churches will be visited and its history explored.

Churches included in the tour are the Hervormde Church in Walter Sisulu Drive, across from the Town Hall, the Dutch Reformed Moedergemeente in Nelson Mandela Drive, the St. Mary’s Anglican Church, the Voortrekker Church at the Reformed Church and the Dutch Reformed Mooirivier Church.

The Hervormde Church recently had its organ, dating from 1891, restored. Two other churches, the Dutch Reformed Moedergemeente in Nelson Mandela Drive and the St. Mary’s Anglican Church recently had historic organs installed.

At each church a different activity will be presented. This includes informative talks on the history of the respective churches, restoration processes, short organ recitals on the historic organs and a PowerPoint presentation with historic photographs.

The tour costs R190 per person which includes lunch. The tour starts at 08:30 at the Hervormde Kerk, 199 Walter Sisulu Drive. Participants are responsible for their own transport from church to church.

The tour can be booked by phoning Danell de Wet at 083 751 7336. Then make payment into the bank account of which the particulars are as follows:
