Earlier this year the Ncera Methodist Church, a Provincial Heritage Site located outside Kidds Beach in the East London District, was vandalised. The roof was removed and the floors were in the process of being removed.
An incredibly sad sight (Mike Dredge)
A local heritage enthusiast took action and reported the matter to the Eastern Cape Provincial Heritage Resources Authority (ECPHRA). A site visit to the 1860s church took place and some of the materials including the old National Monument Plaque were removed for safekeeping. The heritage community in the area is anxious that if action is not taken reasonably soon the church may be lost.
